Here’s a list of 10 Movies that inspired Star Wars
1. Flash Gordon (1936)
George Lucas’ first notion wasn’t his very own idea but a remake. Alex Raymond’s funny cartoon hero initially showed up in print in 1934. Within a few years, it had been taped as a serial, featuring the Olympic swimming champion Buster Crabbe. Lucas couldn’t get the rights and the venture transmogrified into Star Wars. With the writer Joseph Campbell (particularly his 1949 work The Hero with a Thousand Faces) another myth was made. However, numerous components of the Flash Gordon serials remained. Lucas has stated that the characters in Star Wars are more “tributes” than original manifestations.
2. The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938)
Errol Flynn’s beguiling rascal might be nearer in character to Han Solo than Luke Skywalker. However, his acrobatic swordplay, particularly the well- known battle with Basil Rathbone, turned into a significant touchstone for the latter’s saber choreography. We also see Olivia de Havilland as Maid Marian. She is seen brandishing that imperious hauteur and even Princess Leia’s hairdo much sooner than they were in vogue. Furthermore, the writer of this lovable matinee was Erich Wolfgang Korngold, from whom John Williams learnt how to deal with a couple of themes. Korngold’s score for King’s Row (1942) was utilized as a temp track while Lucas was cutting Star Wars together.
