In 2016, more than 23 million folks watched every episode of Game of Thrones. They were eager to discover which unpredictable plots would unfurl onscreen. However, did you know that the most fascinating storylines really occurred in the background? Here’s what we have…
1. HBO Almost Cancelled It Before Airing
The first pilot episode wasn’t that extraordinary. HBO producers and executives were so despondent that they nearly ended the show before it started. On-screen character Sophie Turner said, “We had to re-shoot basically all of it because it was really bad.” Show runners also made changes to the cast. As it is, Emilia Clarke was brought on to supplant Tamzin Merchant in the role of Daenerys Targaryen, and Michelle Fairley became Catelyn Stark instead of Jennifer Ehle. The first pilot was never aired, which is a disgrace. As it is, we’d truly get a kick to see George R.R. Martin’s cameo amid Daenerys’ wedding scene.
2. Pop Quiz
George R.R. Martin had been very hesitant to adapt his novel series, A Song of Ice and Fire. This is because he didn’t want the onscreen variant to reduce the splendor of his books. So when David Benioff and D.B. Weiss approached him for HBO, Martin agreed on one condition: they needed to answer one inquiry. He asked them to guess who Jon Snow’s actual parents are and when Benioff and Weiss gave the right reply, Martin gave his approval.
