The humongous success of movies belted out by the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a boon for the nerds. However, let’s move a little away from Marvel, The Lord Of The Rings, The Matrix and Star Trek and take a look at a wider perspective. How about focussing on a broader range of titles and big-budget Sci-Fi’s which you might’ve missed right under your nose? I’m bringing to you the top 6 movies which, as a true nerd, you must watch before you breathe your last. Here goes….
6. Office Space (1999)
If you’re an office goer, you just can’t miss Mike Judge’s slapstick comedy. It highlights the woes faced by people in an office; right from the environment to the talkative co-workers, pathetic bosses, micromanagement, the screwed up TPS reports and the printer which hardly works.
You’ll laugh your lungs out when you see Peter Gibbons and his friends scheming to rip off their company. This movie is a cult favourite for all office goers. I can bet that you’ll surely relate to it at one point or the other. Apart from this, it mirrors the society we live in, in a very comical fashion. Loved it.
5. THX 1138 (1971)
You better believe this; Way before George Lucas gave you Star Wars to feast on, he made this mesmeric film which starred Robert Duvall. This movie was set in a dystopian prospect where feelings of love were forbidden and citizens were placated with drugs which made them comply with the demands of the authority.
Although this film flew under the radar ever after its release, it’s one of Lucas’s best directed movies. It has elements of originality, terror and a grand vision of a future where basic feelings are wiped out by an atrocious collective.
In this movie, Duvall gives a brilliant performance and the production design is just marvellous. Besides, the tone in the film is much harsher and artier than Star Wars. It showcases the magic that Lucas is capable of weaving.
